About Heat Pumps
Do I need planning permission prior to an install?
No, you probably don't need planning permission to upgrade your home with a heat pump.
However, there may be some situations where you may need it. Here are the things to watch out for (please refer here for the rules in Scotland).
- Your heat pump must pass a noise assessment so that it does not disturb your neighbours.
- Your heat pump needs to be a single fan unit (a 3.5kW, 5kW or 7kW unit) or planning permission will be needed.
- Your heat pump needs to be far enough from your neighbour (1m from the boundary in England, 3m in Wales).
The rules for planning are under review and may change depending on where you live. Your Heat Geek will guide you through all this during your design consultation.
