Grid side intensity is a measure of the average carbon emissions produced by the electricity generated in the UK. In 2023, the UK's grid side intensity was at its lowest ever level, averaging 162g of carbon dioxide per kilowatt hour. This means that even if the carbon intensity of our grid electricity increased by more than five times, an over 400% efficient heat pump would still be more environmentally friendly than a gas boiler.
