About Heat Pumps
If I live in a flat can I still get a heat pump?
If you live in a flat, you may still be able to get a heat pump, but you must have adequate private space outside for the heat pump to be placed. If you don't have an outside area, there may not be space for a heat pump in your home.
The heat pump must be sited at least 1m (3m in Wales) from the boundary and pass a noise assessment so as not to be a nuisance to your neighbours. You can learn more on our noise assessment video.
You may still be able to have a heat pump, but if these conditions are not met, you will have to apply for planning permission.
